April met her husband in 1985 and skilfully managed to avoid having children, in favour of a lifetime of world travel and fabulous holidays, which they both passionately enjoy. In her spare time, April likes to paint landscapes and sketch, is a dab hand on the sewing machine and loves the theatre. Travel also combines her other great joy in life, which is eating and she is always on the hunt for new and exciting restaurants, wherever she is in the world.
For 3 years Chris set up his own very successful Commercial Broking business before being invited to join the board of James Hallam Group in the City, where he spent 10 happy and very productive years.
Chris joined Miles Smith in 2006 in his current role and thoroughly enjoys working at the company.
Grant created one of the first Private Ambulance insurance schemes in 2004, before joining Miles Smith in 2009 where he helped develop a number of new products for the Ambulance sector. Now one of the largest Ambulance scheme facilities in the country, Miles Smith are constantly looking for new innovative ways to help deliver insurance based solutions for their clients.
My initial job was to cross sell high net worth home insurance to their existing motor clients which proved to be a great success and I was made a partner of the business in 1991.
In 2004 we sold the business with my High Net Worth and Commercial Property Owners book to Kerry London Ltd where I was employed as Head of Private Clients dealing with wealthy individuals and placing their covers with insurers such as Chubb, Hiscox, Zurich Private Clients and many other High Net Worth Insurers. In 2009, I was asked to join Miles Smith to set up the Private Clients Division where I am currently Head of Private Clients looking after annual premiums from £3,000 to £100,000. My knowledge and understanding of the HNW insurance industry is vast. I have excellent relationships with all underwriters and claims handlers and I am fully committed in continuing the basic principles of insurance which is honesty, integrity and trust.
In 2015 I was invited by Insurance Age and Post magazine to join as an Advisor on the High Net Worth Advisory Board where we meet quarterly to discuss and offer advice in respect of the HNW markets.
After all these years, I still really enjoy looking after my clients many of who have become great friends!
Following a short spell there, Joe moved to the USA and spent around 2 years between the US & the UK, working part time in both before returning to the UK permanently and more importantly, commercial insurance!
Since then, Joe has undertaken Account Executing roles specialising in the Waste, Recycling and Environmental sectors and has been with Miles Smith since 2013.
Joe lives with his partner and 4 children which keeps him extremely busy but when time allows, enjoys playing Golf and following Spurs.
John is very experienced in various industry sectors including Asbestos, Waste & Recycling and large Motor Fleet operators. He also manages Miles Smiths long standing relationship with the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association.
Outside of work John enjoys football, food and the outdoors, and passes time persuading his two sons that supporting West Ham isn’t that bad.
In 1990 Steve started working at Tony McDonagh & Co Limited based in North London, again dealing with the Commercial Clients getting involved with all aspects of insurance. Steve stayed there until 2017 when the opportunity to work for Miles Smith arose and Steve has represented the company as an Account Executive since.
Steve became Cert CII qualified in 2016.
After 25 years of service and feeling he had gone as far as he could with the company he moved to Miles Smith in 2009 to push the retail side of the business forward in line with a new team joining of fellow experienced professionals at that point in time. Paul has seen Miles Smith go from strength to strength since he joined and has been part of the success.
Paul is married with one son and in his spare time enjoys socialising, music and being a fanatical Spurs Season Ticket holder for the last 30 plus years who he now attends with his son including regular away trips.
In 2008, Ian moved over to the insurance company market and spent 10 years in a variety of sales, business development, marketing and broker relationship management roles for leading Lloyd’s syndicates.
Ian joined Miles Smith in 2018 to spearhead growth in the retail division and works alongside the senior management team on all areas of sales and development, introducer management, budgeting and business planning.
Ian is married with two daughters and in his spare time enjoys golf, music, the trials and tribulations of being a West Ham fan and avoiding as many shopping trips as possible!
