Miles Smith Insurance Group partners with FareShare, the UK’s largest food redistribution charity. Miles Smith is supporting FareShare’s efforts to fight hunger and tackle the problem of food waste across the UK to help those affected by food poverty.
8.4 million people in the UK are struggling to afford to eat (1), which is the equivalent of the entire population of London. At least 270,000 tonnes of surplus food from the UK food and drink industry could be redistributed to feed people each year; enough for 650 million meals (2).
FareShare saves good food destined for waste and sends it to charities and community groups who transform it into nutritious meals for vulnerable people. The food they redistribute is fresh, good quality and in date surplus from the food industry. Last year FareShare worked with 5,589 charities and community groups across the UK, providing 25.8 million meals to vulnerable people.
As well as supporting the charity through donations, Miles Smith will also be giving its employees the opportunity to volunteer at FareShare, sorting and packing food for local charities and community groups.

The Miles Smith Insurance Group is proud to announce a new partnership with SmartWitness, a world-leading designer, manufacturer, and supplier of in-vehicle cameras, recorders, and software. SmartWitness is recognised by industry authorities as being the partner of strength in the field of in-vehicle CCTV, and is currently responsible for the protection of over 200,000 vehicles around the world, which cover in excess of 35 million miles every day.
Miles Smith and SmartWitness understand the challenges that operating a fleet of vehicles can bring, and believe that, with appropriate risk management techniques, such as the installation of in-vehicle cameras, these challenges can be overcome and better managed to ensure that claims are dealt with correctly, and premiums kept to a minimum.The partnership will see all Miles Smith’s fleet insurance customers, which have a fleet size of at least 10 vehicles, offered a SmartWitness KP1S camera, hard-wired installation plus telematics back up via SmartView fleet management software, free of charge for an initial period of three months.
Robert Wright, Motor Claims Manager at Miles Smith said,
“We have found that video evidence is essential for all fleet operators nowadays. The number of disputed claims is reduced dramatically, as well as the length of the disputes. Using SmartWitness cameras provides insurers with first rate FNOL, often just seconds after any incident.
“After the three month trial period any of our clients can give back the camera with no cost whatsoever but we think that, when they see the benefits, they are likely to continue with the cameras and install them throughout their fleet. If they go ahead they will qualify for an exclusive discount on all equipment purchased”
If a vehicle fitted with a SmartWitness KP1S camera is involved in an incident, the camera automatically sends the video footage, via 3G/4G, direct to the insurer and fleet manager, complete with the time, date, GPS location, speed and force of impact. Linked with the SmartView desktop software the cameras offer real-time information for fleet managers delivering telematics information and driver behaviour statistics.
SmartWitness CEO Paul Singh says of the partnership,
“We are finding that more and more road incidents are disputed these days. Very few motorists admit they are at fault, and in a colossal 80% of cases they blame the HGV or van driver. If there is no video evidence most cases settle on an equally shared basis or worse and in that situation many fleet managers prefer to pay off small claims rather than going through their insurer and having their premiums go up.”
